YOGI BEAR and TOM & JERRY - ACTIVITY BOOK COVERS

I'm posting a few children's activity/coloring book covers that I helped create for Golden Books a few years ago. These are my inkings over pencil art by Hanna-Barbera artist, Mark Christiansen. Here's YOGI BEAR and BOO BOO with RANGER SMITH, and TOM & JERRY. I don't believe I ever saw the finished covers (with colors) for these books. If anyone has them, I'd love to have scans of them. SWEET POLLY PUREBRED

Recently, I received an e-mail from blog reader, Lud Hughes. Lud wrote --
I'm a big fan of your cartoon blog and I geeked out after seeing your Underdog folder art for Classic Media!
I know you've put up a couple of Sweet Polly pieces on the blog, but I've noticed you've done a whole lot of art on my favorite character from the show (which is still one of my top ten cartoons EVER! Which makes me shudder in complete despair over the live-action film coming out, but I'm digressing...).
C'mon Patrick, show our favorite news reporter some love! How about showing us some more Polly on the blog?

Here you go, Lud! Here's most of my SWEET POLLY PUREBRED character art that was used on the UNDERDOG folder. I posted the folder on July 13...take a look. I'm also posting a "1950s" SWEET POLLY pencil rough that wasn't inked and used as part of the final character art. Thanks for your e-mail, Lud!

THE BEATLES - 1965 TV CARTOON

Here's recent art of THE BEATLES...just as they appeared in their 1965 ABC-TV Saturday morning cartoon. I did each 8" x 10" image with brush, pen & ink on bristol board. Hopefully, we'll see an official DVD release of THE BEATLES cartoons soon. Click on each image to enlarge!

SPAAAAAAAAACE GHOOOOOOSSST!

In observance of today's release of the SPACE GHOST & DINO BOY 2-disc DVD set, I'm posting a couple of SPACE GHOST items. The first item is a SPACE GHOST cartoon title card for "Zorak", signed by the voice of SPACE GHOST, GARY OWENS! I've met Gary a few times and he's very personable and just an all-around great guy! Gary also provided the voice for another one of my favorite cartoon heroes, ROGER RAMJET. I always thought it would have been cool if Gary Owens had been the voice of BUZZ LIGHTYEAR. Back to SPACE GHOST -- below the signed SPACE GHOST title card, is a piece of SPACE GHOST character art that I inked at Warner Bros. Consumer Products. The art was penciled by super-talented artist Jerome Moore. This is a photocopy of the inked art that I colored with markers, then I added the simple outer space background. I also want to mention that the BIRDMAN & THE GALAXY TRIO 2-disc DVD set was released today! Both DVD sets are part of the Hanna-Barbera Classic Collection. Click on each image to enlarge!

UNDERDOG folder

Here's an item that I just received from Tony Knight, the Creative Director at Classic Media. It's a new UNDERDOG folder that features my UNDERDOG character art. This may have been one of Classic Media's give-a-ways at the recent Licensing Show in New York. I'm posting the folder's front cover, back cover and one of the folder's inside pockets. Tony also sent me the new UNDERDOG 3-disc DVD box set which will be in stores July 24th. I highly recommend the DVD set! Thanks, Tony, for the UNDERDOG package! COMICS THEY NEVER MADE...BUT SHOULD HAVE!

Jon Knutson covers all things TV, cartoons, sci-fi, collectibles and more over on his blog Jon's Random Thoughts. Not long ago, Jon took some of my art and created these great looking mock comic book covers for TENNESSEE TUXEDO and GROOVIE GOOLIES. Jon has a section on his blog of the various fake comic covers that he's put together called COMICS THEY NEVER MADE. My personal favorites are Jon's comic covers for THE BEATLES. Jon does a great job with his blog and posts something just about every day. Be sure to check out Jon's blog! ADDED on July 6, 2007 -- Jon tells me that his weekly column, COVER STORIES, at World Famous Comics also features his wonderful COMICS THEY NEVER MADE comic covers! Jon's COVER STORIES column is terrific, so be sure to check that out as well!

HAPPY 4th of JULY!

They do a great fireworks show every year over there at CBS! Here's the POWERPUFF GIRLS wishing America a very happy 231st birthday! HAPPY 4th of JULY!
