I highly recommend HOT STUFF The Little Devil - HARVEY COMICS CLASSICS Volume 3 from Dark Horse Books! Edited by Leslie Cabarga and with an introduction by Jerry Beck, this volume features 110 comic stories from 1957 through 1966. If you haven't done so already, pick up your copy today!
The CHICAGO CUBS are in town to take on the DODGERS! Leslie and I will be at Dodger Stadium tonight to, hopefully, see a CUBS win. Here's UNDERDOG from the new UNDERDOG SPORTS art program that I just completed for Classic Media. A big THANK YOU to Jane Mella at Classic Media for the assignment! GO CUBS!
BARNEY RUBBLE wants you to visit the FORGOTTEN FLINTSTONES MySpace page! Click HERE!
Here's a BULLWINKLE piece that I did back in 2005. It's brush & ink, colored pencils on 8 1/2" X 11" textured violet paper. I hope to do a ROCKY & BULLWINKLE classic character art program for Classic Media.

I hope everyone is having a great Monday! I was just looking through my files, and I came across these two CAR 54, WHERE ARE YOU? images. I don't know about you, but I'd love to see an official DVD release of this terrific TV series. Produced by Nat Hiken (Sgt. Bilko), CAR 54, WHERE ARE YOU? starred FRED GWYNNE (Herman Munster) and JOE E. ROSS. Wouldn't the old coloring book cover make a great cover for a DVD set?
Recently, I've been looking at a lot of old TV cartoon character paintings that you see on 1960s merchandise like Little Golden Books, Whitman coloring book covers, frame tray puzzles, etc. I think it's the best era of TV cartoon merchandise. Here's SHERMAN from Jay Ward's PEABODY'S IMPROBABLE HISTORY. I did this 6" x 9" piece with markers and colored pencils on coquille board. Click image for a larger view. E-mail me at powsley@flash.net.
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day! Here's something I did for fun. It's an early design for HANNA-BARBERA's RICOCHET RABBIT that I re-created with colored pencils, brush, pen & ink on a textured blue paper. When this design was originally done in 1963, the working title may have been HAIRTRIGGER HARE. This 6 3/4" x 11 3/4" RICOCHET RABBIT original art is available to own. Click on the image for a larger view! Check my May 24 posting for other available HANNA-BARBERA items that feature RICOCHET RABBIT. E-mail me for details at powsley@flash.net. Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley
Here's HANNA-BARBERA's SNAGGLEPUSS! This is brush, pen & ink with colored pencils on a textured orange paper. Measuring 7 7/8" x 8 3/4", this original SNAGGLEPUSS art is available to own. Be sure to click on the image for a larger view! See my previous post for other items that include SNAGGLEPUSS. Heavens to Murgatroyd! E-mail me at powsley@flash.net. Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley
Happy Birthday, Baby! I love you! -- Patrick

These HANNA-BARBERA puzzle cubes were given away at Arby's in 1996. Each cube features very cool art of some of our favorite HANNA-BARBERA TV friends...YOGI BEAR, HUCKLEBERRY HOUND, BREEZLY BRUIN, SNAGGLEPUSS, QUICK DRAW McGRAW, TOP CAT, RANGER SMITH, HARDY HAR HAR, DEPUTY DROOP-A-LONG, CINDY BEAR, LIPPY THE LION and WALLY GATOR. Here's the cover to Hanna-Barbera's AUGIE DOGGIE and DOGGIE DADDY style guide that I helped produce at Warner Bros. Consumer Products. I inked all of the character art for the guide, which was penciled by Mike Fontanelli. I'm also posting one of the AUGIE DOGGIE and DOGGIE DADDY poses from the style guide. I was fortunate to get this color piece signed by the voice of DOGGIE DADDY, DOUG YOUNG! YOUNG is also known to HANNA-BARBERA fans as the voice of YIPPEE (from the YIPPEE, YAPPEE and YAHOOEY cartoons) and DING-A-LING (from the HOKEY WOLF cartoons). I'm posting a few more LOONEY TUNES pieces that I helped create at Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Here's another BUGS BUNNY comic book cover re-creation (for the Warner Bros. 75th anniversary art program), with style guide supplement art of FOGHORN LEGHORN and HENERY HAWK! Click on each image for a larger view. E-mail me at powsley@flash.net. Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

It's been a while since I last posted any LOONEY TUNES art. Here's a few pieces that I inked for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. The first is a BUGS BUNNY comic book cover re-creation for the Warner Bros. 75th Anniversary art program. The ELMER FUDD and SYLVESTER JR. art are LOONEY TUNES style guide supplements. I inked all of these with brush, pen & ink. The ELMER FUDD and SYLVESTER JR. poses are from character model sheets. I was happy to see nice flat colors on all of this art! Recently, I was looking through the 1965 Whitman Tell-a-Tale book, MAGILLA GORILLA TAKES A BANANA HOLIDAY. I thought it would be fun to re-create one of the book's MAGILLA color painted images as a black and white piece. This 8 1/2" x 11" MAGILLA GORILLA original art is brush, pen and ink on duralene with white opaque watercolor...and available to own! Click on MAGILLA for a larger view! E-mail me at powsley@flash.net. Thanks! - Patrick Owsley

Here's a few pages from recent issues of ARCHIE & FRIENDS that I've had the pleasure of lettering. Thanks to Mike Pellerito at Archie Comics for the work! Click on each image for a larger view!

I was recently commissioned by MARCELO GUERRO of Buenos Aires, Argentina, to do some work for him. Marcelo is a terrific caricaturist, and a fan of Hanna-Barbera's THE IMPOSSIBLES. He sent me the above photos of his custom-made figure sets of THE IMPOSSIBLES...as the rock group, and as super heroes! I'd love to see figures like this produced here in the States by a licensee and Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Be sure to check out Marcelo's caricature website by clicking here. As always, click on the photos for a larger view!

Click on my CARTOON ART PORTFOLIO link in my LINKS section to see the lettering samples that I just posted. Most of my lettering samples are pages from SPUMCO COMIC BOOK. Some of the pages were never published, including the two JIMMY THE IDIOT BOY pages I've posted above. It was great working on SPUMCO COMIC BOOK with John Kricfalusi, Jim Smith, Vincent Waller, Mike Fontanelli, Shane Glines and other Spumco Big Shot Hollywood Cartoonists! I would love to see John K's SPUMCO COMIC BOOK published again. Click on each image for a larger view!

I was talking today with someone about a project that could involve HANNA-BARBERA's THE IMPOSSIBLES. I'll be able to elaborate on the project at a later date. So I thought I'd post this art from my HANNA-BARBERA art file. Here's FLUID MAN, COIL MAN and MULTI MAN! Each piece was created using colored pencils with brush & ink on canary yellow textured paper. Click on each image for a larger view! RALLY-HO!

Here's those HANNA-BARBERA TV cartoon meeces, PIXIE AND DIXIE, along with MR. JINKS. The top image is from the PIXIE AND DIXIE and MR. JINKS style guide that I helped create at Warner Bros. Consumer Products. The characters were penciled by talented HANNA-BARBERA artist, Mark Christiansen, then inked by me with a brush. The coloring was done by one of the designers at WBCP. I'm also showing a scan of PIXIE AND DIXIE and MR. JINKS No. 1, published by Gold Key in 1962. Click on each image for a larger view!
My good friend, RANKIN/BASS Historian and Biographer RICK GOLDSCHMIDT, has a new CD of his music coming out soon. The title of the CD is RICK GOLDSCHMIDT SINGS - UNPLUGGED. You can see the CD's cover on Rick's RANKIN/BASS blog by clicking HERE. I did the above MISER BROS. PRESS logo for Rick a few years ago. It's the publishing imprint for Rick's RANKIN/BASS books, THE ENCHANTED WORLD OF RANKIN/BASS and THE MAKING OF RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER. I also did a revision of the logo for Rick's CD projects...MISER BROS. RECORDS. I used the early RANKIN/BASS TV character, PINOCCHIO, in both logos. I'll have to get a scan of the MISER BROS. RECORDS logo and post it here soon. Rick's previous CDs, RICK GOLDSCHMIDT SINGS and RICK GOLDSCHMIDT SINGS AGAIN, are available directly from Rick...e-mail him at rickgoldsc@aol.com. Be sure to bookmark his RANKIN/BASS blog and visit often! Rick also has his RANKIN/BASS books and many rare archival RANKIN/BASS CDs and DVDs currently available. You can e-mail me at powsley@flash.net. Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley
