HANNA-BARBERA CHARACTERS - 18" x 24" original art available!

A couple of people have recently asked me about this piece I did a while ago. It's all of the Hanna-Barbera "animal" characters that appeared between the years 1958 through 1966...from RUFF & REDDY to PRECIOUS PUPP. The original art piece measures 18" x 24" and it is available to own! The original art was too large to scan, so I had to photocopy the original in sections. Then, I pieced the photocopy together for scanning. You can see the lines where the photocopies were cut. Of course, the cut lines do not appear on the original art piece. The art is brush, pen & ink on bristol board and the classic HANNA-BARBERA logo is hand-lettered. E-mail me at powsley@flash.net for details. Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BORIS KARLOFF!

The legendary BORIS KARLOFF was born on this day in 1887! The above image was something I did a while ago...it's the KARLOFF "Animagic" puppet from the classic Rankin/Bass movie, MAD MONSTER PARTY. It's brush, pen & ink on gray linen paper. The MAD MONSTER PARTY logo is hand-lettered. My pal, Karswell, who runs the blog THE HORRORS OF IT ALL, gave me the heads-up about Uncle Boris' birthday. If you haven't already, be sure to check out THE HORRORS OF IT ALL blog by clicking HERE! You can e-mail me at powsley@flash.net. Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

HO: A DAN BAND CHRISTMAS COLORING BOOK

Here's a few pieces from one of my recent projects. Back at the end of July, I was hired by DAN FINNERTY of THE DAN BAND to create the cartoon illustrations for their new comedy Christmas music CD booklet. The booklet is called HO: A DAN BAND CHRISTMAS COLORING BOOK. There are 10 interior illustrations to be colored...each one representing a song on the CD. Each illustration is accompanied in the coloring book with the song's lyrics. The full-color coloring book cover is shown above with the coloring page art for the songs HO HO HO...CHRISTMAKWANZAKAH...GET DRUNK & MAKE OUT THIS CHRISTMAS and PLEASE DON'T BOMB NOBODY THIS HOLIDAY. I thought it would be fun to mimic Paul Coker, Jr.'s "Rankin/Bass" lettering style on the booklet's cover. Click here for THE DAN BAND's MySpace page...you can order the CD, HO: A DAN BAND CHRISTMAS, from their MySpace page! You'll see a banner to click on to order. Order today! THE DAN BAND is currently on tour and appeared in the feature films STARSKY & HUTCH (with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson) and OLD SCHOOL (with Will Ferrell). THANK YOU to DAN FINNERTY for the assignment! Click on each image for a larger view. Also...click on my Ebay art auctions link in my LINKS section to see my listing for all of THE DAN BAND CHRISTMAS COLORING BOOK original art. Be sure to visit my official MySpace page by clicking on the link in my LINKS section, as well. You can e-mail me at powsley@flash.net . Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

TOM & JERRY - 1952 BENEFIT PROGRAM

Here's a great item from my files. It looks like the cover to an MGM Studio Club benefit dinner dance program from March 1952. I love how the stylized background images are designed around TOM & JERRY. Click on the image for a larger view!

BUGS BUNNY FIGURAL PRODUCT DESIGN

In an effort to get back to posting more often than I have been lately, I'm posting these front and back views of a BUGS BUNNY figural product design. I'm not exactly sure when this design was done. The yellow gloves on BUGS could date it back to the 1950s or early 1960s. Looks like this could be a really cool BUGS BUNNY vinyl figure today! This also gives me the chance to recommend the recently released LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION VOL. 5 DVD set! I just finished watching Disc 1 and really enjoyed seeing the General Foods commercials for Post Cereals and Tang featuring BUGS BUNNY! Pick up the DVD set today. Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

A few years ago, CHRISTOPHER LEE made an appearance at the old CREATURE FEATURES store in Burbank, CA and he was kind enough to sign the above photo for me.

THE STONE AGE GANG - 1965 HANNA-BARBERA PRESENTATION ART

It's been just over a week since my last posting. I've been really busy working on a music-related project that I can't discuss or post any art from yet. I will do that later.
Here's a piece of 1965 presentation art for the HANNA-BARBERA production, THE STONE AGE GANG. The show never did go into production, but it looks like the concept did evolve into the HANNA-BARBERA Gold Key comic book series, THE CAVE KIDS. Click on the image for a larger view! You can reach me at powsley@flash.net . Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

THE JAGUARS - 1965 HANNA-BARBERA PRESENTATION ART

I've been getting a really good response to the recent postings of HANNA-BARBERA presentation art. So, what's next? How about this 1965 presentation piece for THE JAGUARS? We never saw THE JAGUARS go into production, but maybe the rock group concept carried over to the development of THE IMPOSSIBLES. Looks like both may have been in development around the same time. Click on the image for a larger view! You can e-mail me at powsley@flash.net . Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

DAN'L BONE - HANNA-BARBERA PRESENTATION ART

I'm not sure what year this presentation art is from, but it's for a proposed character named DAN'L BONE. Though the DAN'L BONE series never made it to production, it looks like it could have been another hit TV series for HANNA-BARBERA. From the looks of the second presentation board, it appears the show may have involved time travel. Great looking character and art! Be sure to click on each image for a larger view! E-mail me at powsley@flash.net . Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

ATOM ANT - 1964 PRESENTATION ART

The other day, I received an e-mail from blog reader Dom Giansante of Forest Grove, OR. Dom wrote, "Those presentation boards are so fun!!! I love seeing character designs of my favorite characters - before they became how we know them now!! Keep them coming!! I am fascinated!" Dom is speaking of my recent postings of HANNA-BARBERA presentation art. Without hesitation, here's 1964 presentation art for ATOM ANT! I'm also posting a 1965 ATOM ANT title card for "Ferocious Flea", showing you the character's transition from concept to TV screen. Click on each image to enlarge! E-mail me at powsley@flash.net . SECRET SQUIRREL - 1964 PRESENTATION ART

The other day, I posted presentation art for Hanna-Barbera's FRANKENSTEIN JR.. Here's another great vintage piece from my HANNA-BARBERA reference file. It's 1965 presentation art for SECRET SQUIRREL and MOROCCO MOLE. SECRET and MOROCCO ended up looking quite differently when their cartoons went into production. I'm also posting a 1965 SECRET SQUIRREL & MORROCO MOLE cartoon title card for "Yellow Pinkie" and a piece of SECRET SQUIRREL character art that I did a few years ago. You can really see how the characters evolved. Even the spelling of MORROCO was different from the presentation art to the title card. I've got more classic HANNA-BARBERA presentation art that I'll be posting soon. Keep checking back! Be sure to click on each image for a larger view! You can e-mail me at powsley@flash.net . Thanks! -- Patrick Owsley

HOME RUN KING!

Congratulations to BARRY BONDS of the San Francisco Giants on becoming Major League Baseball's all-time home run leader. BONDS hit home run #756 tonight off of MIKE BACSIK of the WASHINGTON NATIONALS. BONDS broke the previous home run record of 755 held by HANK AARON, by hitting the historic home run at Pac Bell Park in San Francisco. Although BONDS may now have hit the most home runs in Major League Baseball history, HANK AARON is the real HOME RUN KING! I've posted a 2003 Topps Fan Favorite reproduction of a HANK AARON 1975 baseball card.

FRANKENSTEIN JR. - 1965 PRESENTATION ART

Here's something from my Hanna-Barbera reference files that I'm sure you'll enjoy. It's a 1966 presentation board for one of my favorite Hanna-Barbera super TV heroes, FRANKENSTEIN JR.! I'm also posting another 1966 presentation board of proposed Hanna-Barbera villains. These look like villains for THE IMPOSSIBLES. Be sure to click on each image for a larger view!

PATRICK OWSLEY to work with ARCHIE COMICS!

I recently signed the Independent Contractor's Agreement that was sent to me by ARCHIE COMICS. I'll be doing hand-lettering for ARCHIE digest stories. I want to thank Archie Editor, Mike Pellerito, for the work!
Yesterday, the 1968 Saturday morning CBS-TV series, THE ARCHIE SHOW, was released on a 2-disc DVD set. The series was produced by FILMATION and it's a lot of fun to watch. The series featured great bubble gum rock by THE ARCHIES with front man, RON DANTE. I'm posting a 45 single of THE ARCHIES that I had signed by RON DANTE. I've also posted the cover and first page of EVERYTHING'S ARCHIE No. 1 from 1969. THE ARCHIE SHOW DVD set includes a reproduction of this comic book story where ARCHIE, JUGHEAD, BETTY, VERONICA and REGGIE visit the FILMATION studio and meet NORM PRESCOTT, HAL SUTHERLAND and LOU SCHEIMER.
