Perhaps all of the Hanna-Barbera afficionados out there have seen these 1965 Hanna-Barbera safety signs, but I wanted to post them for everyone else to see just how cool they are. I'm not exactly sure who illustrated the safety signs. Does anyone know? There were 36 safety signs produced...here's the first three. I'll be posting three H-B safety signs each day on my blog. Here's the cover art for a new soon-to-be-released DASTARDLY & MUTTLEY video game. The game is being produced by Blast Entertainment in the U.K. Thanks to David Cohen at Warner Bros. and Joanne Wenn at Blast Entertainment for the fun job! I pencilled and inked the art, then did the color design. The art was colored by Jeff Victor. Thanks, Jeff! I had to leave plenty of room in the top and bottom areas for the "DASTARDLY & MUTTLEY Operation: Pigeon Pursuit" logo, the Blast Entertainment logo, rating boxes and the WB shield. Leslie and I are back from our honeymoon! In the top photo, we're boarding our cruise ship in Los Angeles on March 5. We sailed aboard Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas to Ensenada, Mexico with stops in San Diego and Catalina Island. Leslie and I had a great time! The bottom photo is us at dinner during the ship's formal evening.
Here's a piece from 1998. I took one of the many sensational pieces of black and white FLINTSTONES character art by the great designer, Craig Kellman, and gave it some color. It's done with markers and colored pencils on marker paper. I'll be back at the end of this week with another post. Click on the image for a larger view! It's been a week since my last blog posting...too long! I've been busy with a couple of new projects. One of them is illustrating a DASTARDLY & MUTTLEY video game cover. Blast! Entertainment in the U.K. is producing the game. I'm posting the detail of DICK DASTARDLY from the game cover's pencil rough. Here's a recent DVD cover project that I did for East West DVD of Brooklyn, NY and North Hollywood, CA. It's JAY WARD's HOPPITY HOOPER! Also shown in the art are HOPPITY's pals, UNCLE WALDO and FILLMORE BEAR. I did the art for a public domain release of HOPPITY HOOPER cartoons. I'm not sure when this DVD volume will be released. My wife Leslie and I want to wish everyone a happy Valentine's Day! Here's our favorite little devil, HOT STUFF, showing some love! I did this HOT STUFF piece today in honor of Valentine's Day. It's from a group of pencil roughs that I did for Classic Media's HOT STUFF Valentine's Day licensing art program. It's markers, colored pencils, brush & ink with cel vinyl paint on coquille board. Some of my favorites are the new MAD MONSTER PARTY Series 2 figures and the 20" HUCKLEBERRY HOUND Wacky Wobbler Coin Bank. Brian Mariotti and his Funko staff are doing outstanding work! Here's something I did late last year. It's BUTCHY BOY from the 1960s BOZO THE CLOWN TV cartoons. I believe the late great Ed Benedict designed BUTCHY for the cartoons produced by Larry Harmon Pictures Corp. This piece is 5" x 7". I just finished the character art that is appearing on the packaging for a new FELIX THE CAT DVD. Classic Media is producing the DVD which will feature the 1958 - 1959 TV adventures of FELIX. Also shown are FELIX THE CAT adversaries, PROFESSOR NUT-MEG and ROCK BOTTOM. All are brush & ink on bristol board. Thanks to Classic Media's Creative Director, Tony Knight for the work! Here's a few more photos from the March 23 GEORGE BARRIS street naming event. It was nice that BATMAN, ROBIN, BATGIRL and CATWOMAN attended the ceremony! Also in attendance was BO DEREK, PATRICK WAYNE, ERIK ESTRADA, voice-over actor WALLY WINGERT and BUTCH "Eddie Munster" PATRICK. BUTCH was kind enough to pose for a photo with me, which I've posted. KNBC's FRITZ COLEMAN was Master of Ceremonies. MARK LONDON, a terrific graphic designer and friend (Brian Wilson, Hal Lifson's 1966 book), was also there. Here's a few photos from the George Barris street naming event. The event took place March 23 at Barris Kustom City in North Hollywood, CA. A small side street next to the Barris shop was renamed George Barris Place. It was great to see Mr. Barris recognized for his sensational work in the entertainment industry! Some of the "kustom" cars that George Barris built include the 1966 TV BATMOBILE...THE MUNSTERS KOACH...THE STARSKY & HUTCH Gran Torino and he collaborated with Dean Jeffries on THE MONKEEMOBILE. Since it's still very "frosty" in many parts of the U.S., I thought I'd post a few pieces of FROSTY's WINTER WONDERLAND licensing character art. FROSTY's WINTER WONDERLAND was produced by Rankin/Bass Productions. The 1976 TV special starred the voice talents of Andy Griffith, Shelly Winters and Paul Frees. FROSTY's WINTER WONDERLAND is the cel animated sequel to Rankin/Bass' 1969 FROSTY THE SNOWMAN. I inked this art for Warner Bros. Consumer Products using brush & ink. The art was penciled by Mike Fontanelli based on the great Paul Coker, Jr. character designs. As I stated in my January 30 posting, this character art is going to appear soon on DVD packaging. Here's TOTAL TELEVISION's COMMANDER McBRAGG, KING LEONARDO, ODIE, THE HUNTER and TOOTER TURTLE.
