Here's part of a new project that I've been working on. Classic Media is putting together new volumes of THE UNDERDOG SHOW on DVD. I believe the first volume is due out sometime this Summer. Tony Knight, Classic Media's Creative Director, asked me to do art of the "segment" characters that were part of THE UNDERDOG SHOW. The art will be used on DVD packaging. These characters were created and produced by Total Television Productions. I'm posting the pencil roughs for COMMANDER McBRAGG, KLONDIKE KAT and TOOTER TURTLE. I also did roughs for SAVOIR FARE, KING LEONARDO & ODIE, THE HUNTER and the UNDERDOG villain, OVERCAT. I'll post the finished inked art of all of these characters when I'm done later this week. E-mail me at powsley@flash.net .

Here's a couple of SYLVESTER & TWEETY pieces. I did the top piece of TWEETY with markers, colored pencils, brush & ink on coquille board. It's based on the Bob Clampett version of TWEETY. The black and white piece of SYLVESTER & TWEETY was done for LOONEY TUNES licensing at Warner Bros. Consumer Products. I inked the pencil art (by Mike Fontanelli) with brush, pen & ink on duralene. Be sure to click each image for a larger view. E-mail me at powsley@flash.net .
Here's a TOP CAT piece that I did this past week. "T.C." is 8" x 10"...markers, colored pencils, brush, pen & ink with cel vinyl paint on coquille board. This pose of TOP CAT is based on one that was used in a TOP CAT anti-piracy style guide for Hanna-Barbera licensing. Click on the image to enlarge. E-mail me at powsley@flash.net .
I want to wish my Dad, JIM OWSLEY, a very happy 72nd birthday today! This photo is from a family portrait that was taken in 1966. Happy Birthday, Dad! I love you!
I'm a big fan of the 1960s HANNA-BARBERA TV cartoon version of LAUREL & HARDY. I also love the H-B cartoons of ABBOTT & COSTELLO. Check my November 1, 2006 posting for an image of the TV cartoon BUD & LOU! Here's a recent piece of the TV cartoon STAN LAUREL and OLIVER HARDY. Perhaps someday we'll see official remastered DVD releases of the LAUREL & HARDY and ABBOTT & COSTELLO TV cartoons. Click on STAN & OLLIE to enlarge!
Here's ASTRO from Hanna-Barbera's THE JETSONS. I did this piece just for fun with colored pencils on a black matte board. Keep your thoughts and comments about my blog coming! You can e-mail me at powsley@flash.net .
I recently found out that the complete DVD collection of THE MR. MAGOO SHOW is now available! This 4-disc set, from Classic Media and Sony Wonder, features 130 MAGOO cartoons...that's 26 full shows. It's the 1960s TV classic! This DVD set was to be released in February of 2005, but its release was cancelled. Besides getting into a bidding war on Ebay, the only place I know of to get this DVD set is from the Classic Media on-line store. Order it here --http://store.classicmedia.tv/The-Mr-Magoo-Show-Complete-DVD-Collection_p_0-58.htmlI did the above MR. MAGOO image as a supplement for Classic Media's current MAGOO style guide. Order your MR. MAGOO DVD set today!

Here's a couple of licensing pieces of Hanna-Barbera's PETER POTAMUS. I inked both of these images for the current PETER POTAMUS and SO-SO style guide. The color image was pencilled by Mark Christiansen, while the black and white art was pencilled by Iwao Takamoto. Click on each image to enlarge!

The other day, I mentioned that I would post the two WACKY RACES character illustrations that I did for Brian Mariotti's book on classic HANNA-BARBERA merchandise. Brian is President of FUNKO. Here's PROFESSOR PAT PENDING and RUFUS RUFFCUT. Check my October 2006 archive for the DICK DASTARDLY and PETER PERFECT book illustrations. I believe the late, great Iwao Takamoto designed these characters for the HANNA-BARBERA Saturday morning TV show. E-mail your thoughts and comments about my blog to me at powsley@flash.net .

Back in October, I posted many portrait-style illustrations of various classic HANNA-BARBERA characters. The illustrations were to be included in a book on classic HANNA-BARBERA merchandise by Brian Mariotti, the President of FUNKO. Brian informs me that my illustrations are not going to be included in the book. Warner Bros., who approved the book's content, didn't want the illustrations included due to the fact that the illustrations were not licensed by Warner Bros. It's too bad...the illustrations only promote their characters, plus I'm sure the fans of classic HANNA-BARBERA would have had fun seeing the art in the book. On a good note, Brian told me that he was able to have Joe Barbera write the book's foreword earlier this year. Mr. Barbera passed away last month. Despite WB's omissions, I'm sure we all are looking forward to seeing this book on classic HANNA-BARBERA merchandise! Here's the illustrations of MR. SLATE (from THE FLINTSTONES) and MR. SPACELY (from THE JETSONS) that I did for Brian's book. As you know, MR. SLATE was FRED FLINTSTONE's boss and MR. SPACELY was GEORGE JETSON's employer. I've got a couple of WACKY RACES character illustrations that I did for the book. I'll post those soon. Hope you enjoy seeing these! Click on each image to enlarge. Keep your comments about my blog coming...e-mail me at powsley@flash.net . Thanks! - Patrick Owsley

Here's more licensing art that I inked for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. It's FOGHORN LEGHORN and the BARNYARD DOG. The blue pencil art is by Mike Fontanelli. I inked Mike's pencil art with a #3 Winsor & Newton Series 7 brush on duralene, which was placed directly over a photocopy of the pencil art.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Leslie and I began our new year celebration by having a wonderful dinner at YAMATO, a Japanese restaurant in Encino, CA. We then returned home and continued to celebrate New Year's Eve with our good friends, Lauren and Paul DiCocco. Here's a MR. MAGOO piece that I did as a supplement to Classic Media's current MR. MAGOO style guide. Have a great 2007!! -- Patrick Owsley
