BANANA SPLITS CLUB - 1969 ADVERTISEMENT

This is the inside front cover of Hanna-Barbera's HI-ADVENTURE HEROES #1, published by Gold Key in 1969. I've always been a fan of the BANANA SPLITS, which were a co-creation by Hanna-Barbera and Sid & Marty Krofft. YOGI BEAR & THE BEATLES - 1965 COMIC STRIP

I love the BEATLES reference in this 1965 YOGI BEAR Sunday comic strip! We all know this strip was not written and illustrated by BILL HANNA and JOE BARBERA. I don't know who wrote it, but it looks like the art may have been done by DICK BICKENBACH or HARVEY EISENBERG. Anyone know for sure? I have quite a few of these YOGI BEAR strips in my Hanna-Barbera files for future postings. Keep checking back! Click on the image for a larger view!

UPDATE - Blog reader CHRIS ALLARD (from Woburn, MA) tells me that the above YOGI BEAR strip was indeed illustrated by HARVEY EISENBERG and written by FRED TREADGOLD. Thanks for the info, Chris!

THE LITTLE RASCALS: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION

I'm really looking forward to the October 28 release of THE LITTLE RASCALS: The Complete Collection DVD set from Genius Products. Spanning the years of 1929-1938, this collection contains all 80 of the original Little Rascals theatrical talkies in their entirety. All are fully remastered, restored and uncut! This amazing 8-disc set contains a collectible booklet, loads of nostalgic bonus footage, photos and much more! This preeminent collection is a must-have for fans, both old and new. Looks like they did a great job on the collection's packaging! Also...here's a photo of SPANKY McFARLAND and JIGGS THE CHIMPANZEE from the hilarious 1936 release, DIVOT DIGGERS.

"FRESH UP" FREDDIE & 7-UP

I'm a great fan of the old advertising characters. I thought you'd enjoy seeing these 1959 7-Up advertisements that feature "FRESH UP" FREDDIE. 7-Up sponsored the Walt Disney ABC-TV show, ZORRO. That's GUY WILLIAMS (Lost In Space) pictured as ZORRO! Click on each image for a larger view!

HONG KONG PHOOEY's ROSEMARY!

The other day, I received an e-mail from voice actress and screen writer, KATHY GORI. Kathy was the voice of ROSEMARY on Hanna-Barbera's HONG KONG PHOOEY. After she saw my April 21, 2007 posting of ROSEMARY character art inkings, Kathy wrote --
"I was the voice of Rosemary for Hong Kong Phooey, and you made "me" look great! Unfortunately I never got any of the original cells from Hong Kong Phooey, I wish I had. I do have some cells of my character Katie on Valley of the Dinosaurs, but that show wasn't as cool as Hong Kong. I did a lot of work for Hanna-Barbera , it's nice to see people remember the shows. Cheers, Kathy Gori"
Kathy later told me that she really enjoyed recording her voice work with HONG KONG PHOOEY co-stars, SCATMAN CROTHERS and JOE E. ROSS! Today, Kathy lives in northern California where she and her husband, Alan, are a screen writing team. Glad you liked the art, Kathy! It was great to hear from you.

HELLO KIDDIES...MEET THE JOKER!

This posting's title was CESAR ROMERO's first line in the 1966 BATMAN TV episode, THE JOKER GOES TO SCHOOL. Here's a couple of items that CESAR ROMERO graciously signed for me back in 1989. Click on each image for a larger view.

BARRIS KUSTOM CITY

The GEORGE BARRIS KUSTOM CITY car shop in North Hollywood, CA is just a couple of minutes from my home. As you know, GEORGE BARRIS is the man who "kustomized" the famous TV cars of the 1966 BATMOBILE, the MUNSTERS KOACH, the MUNSTERS DRAG-U-LA , THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES CAR and STARSKY AND HUTCH'S RED GRAN TORINO and many more. Today, I was driving by the shop and decided to stop and snap a couple of photos with my digital camera. I really like what they've done with the shop's front window...especially the cartoon of George Barris in the MUNSTERS DRAG-U-LA! Currently, the 1966 TV BATMOBILE is on display just inside of the front window in the main showroom. Click on each photo and image for a larger view!

FRED FLINTSTONE & BARNEY RUBBLE - FUNKO FIGURES

Just received these today from Brian Mariotti at Funko! These FRED FLINTSTONE and BARNEY RUBBLE figures were produced for the upcoming San Diego Comic Con as limited edition sets. FRED stands 6" tall, while BARNEY stands 5" tall. FRED and BARNEY look sensational! I love the color variations that Funko used on the figures...very much like the early HANNA-BARBERA toys. Very cool! Click on each photo for a larger view!

THE FLINTSTONES ON THE ROCKS

Here's the front and back covers of the 1961 Dell comic book, THE FLINTSTONES ON THE ROCKS. This book is approximately 100 pages and features black and white art throughout. THE BEST TO YOU!

My best wishes to everyone for a great Summer! Here's a KELLOGG'S promotional image featuring TONY THE TIGER, YOGI BEAR, SUGAR POPS PETE, TWINKLES, CRACKLE, HUCKLEBERRY HOUND and QUICK DRAW McGRAW. Also pictured is the KELLOGG'S factory in Battle Creek, MI. I remember going there and taking the factory tour with my Mom and sister in the early 1970s. The KELLOGG'S factory was about a two-hour drive north of our home in Michigan City, IN.

POPEYE STUFF

Brian Mariotti at Funko recently sent me their 12" POPEYE Talking Bobble Bank. It's a neat looking piece of new POPEYE merchandise! The back and sides of the bank's box features great character art of POPEYE, OLIVE OYL, SWEE'PEA, WIMPY, BRUTUS and JEEP! I believe the art was done by POPEYE licensing artist, STEPHEN DeSTEFANO. Get one today!
And speaking of neat looking POPEYE merchandise...here's a cool POPEYE t-shirt that my lovely wife, Leslie, picked up for me at Target today. Very nice POPEYE art...looks like it was also done by DeSTEFANO. Check your local Target store! Click on the photos for larger views.
