I had a long conversation with Davis many years ago. My best friend's father was a part of a wester comedy duo called Homer and Jethro and Davis painted a bunch of covers for their albums. I was a dumb kid so I called MAD Magazine to see if I could buy one of the paintings from him for my friend's birthday. An editor felt sorry for me and hooked me up with him. We talked for about an hour and during the first ten minutes he let me know that back then artists rarely received their artwork back. The agencies mostly pitched them in the trash after they were done. But after we had a great conversation about his career, cartooning, EC Comics, and life in general. It was a swell thing for him to do.
